Do all Ford vehicles have an EGR valve?

The average service life of the component is 60–100 thousand km. However, using insufficiently refined fuel can reduce the lifespan to 10–20 thousand km.

Malfunctions are usually caused by soot and oil deposits, which prevents the device from activating on time or causes it to jam. This, in turn, leads to increased fuel consumption, engine instability when idling and during acceleration, engine overheating, and a reduced power output. The catalytic converter and the cylinder-and-piston group of the engine wear out quickly, and the cylinder head may crack. In addition, the amount of harmful emissions released into the atmosphere increases significantly.

How can I extend the service life of this device for my Ford vehicle?

In some cases, cleaning the carbon deposits off the valve can help.

Is it mandatory to replace the EGR valve or can it be repaired?

It is possible to repair it if the malfunction is caused by carbon deposits, rather than by mechanical damage. To get the component back in working order, you will need to follow these steps:

1. Holding the dismantled device in your hand, tap its body around with a soft-faced hammer without applying excessive force.
2. Shake off any contaminants.
3. Make sure the seat of the valve is clean.
4. Remove small carbon deposits from the component by blowing them off with compressed air.
5. Gently clean the surface of the component and the intake manifold using a soft wire brush.
6. Replace the seal.

Note! The procedure does not involve the use of any chemicals.

Removing severe dirt, scratches, and cracks is a laborious and costly process. In such cases, it is often advisable to buy a new product.
