What components are Mercedes-Benz window regulators made up of?
Most vehicles have cable regulators. These are the main components of this type of mechanism:
- The cable. Makes it possible to move the glass.
- The drive drum. It transfers the force from the window crank or electric motor to move the other key parts of the mechanism.
- Regulator rollers. They ensure that the cable is properly tightened.
- Guide rails. They are attached to the door panel vertically. The brackets that hold the glass move along these rails.
Some commercial vehicles are fitted with lever devices. These mechanisms include a gear wheel that drives a lever and plate connected to the glass pane.
How do I know if the window regulators on my Mercedes-Benz need to be replaced?
First of all, look out for the following symptoms:
- The window will not move, even though the electric motor is running. This could be a sign that the cable is broken or has been disconnected from the drum.
- One of the windows is not working. Usually caused by a burned-out motor, broken power cable, or faulty button.
- The window moves slowly, jerks, tilts or jams. This could indicate that the guide rails are deformed, the cable has been overstretched, or the motor gear is worn.
- None of the window mechanisms are reacting. Usually indicates that there is a blown fuse or the power window control unit has failed.
To check the condition of the electrical circuit, use a multimeter. You will also need to remove the door trim to inspect the electric motor.
Are the front and rear devices the same?
Not always. Many versions are fitted with front window mechanisms that have two guide rails and rear mechanisms with one rail. In addition, there can be manual or power window regulators.
