Ford B-Max: common problems and breakdowns
The B-Max minivan from Ford came onto the market in 2012. It doesn’t have a B-pillar and this allows for good access to the sides. This is especially convenient when child seats are to be installed in the B-Max. The rear sliding doors also have benefits if you frequently travel with children. Although the B-Max is based on the small car Fiesta, it offers a surprising amount of room inside and a comfortably high seating position. The minivan also wins points for its workmanship. During the drive, the comfortable suspension and the Ford-typical, accurate steering are compelling. In congested city traffic, however, the poor all-around visibility and large turning radius are a nuisance. Overall, the B-Max scores well in the German TÜV, with only the spring/damper unit and the lighting causing frequent problems. In the ADAC breakdown statistics, the B-Max lands in one of the last places due to frequent breakdowns, often caused by defective batteries and fuel pumps.
What are the most common problems?
Automatic transmission
The main problem that most users of the Ford B-Max have complained about is the automatic transmission causing problems after about 20,000 miles resulting in slippage, vibrations, and varying shift patterns, among other things. Some of the signs of a faulty automatic transmission are overheating, fluid leakage, the check engine light coming on, unusual noises, and shaking or grinding. Repairing an automatic transmission can be time-intensive and expensive, but it is essential. Alternately, you can opt for the replacement of the entire gearbox.

Diesel particle filter (DFP)
The DPF begins to have issues if it has been partially switched off during the regeneration process. This causes the oil system to contaminate with fuel, which then leads the oil level to steadily increase resulting in possible engine damage. Another problem is the filter clogging up. You can avoid this by sticking to a regular maintenance schedule. However, if the diesel particulate filter for Ford B Max is actually damaged or worn-out, you will need to check Ford B Max accessories and spare parts and put in a new one.
Problems with the steering
Ford B-Max owners can also expect is problems with the steering. The steering wheel may be difficult to turn or does not respond properly. This is usually caused by a leak in the power steering fluid. Other reasons may be worn service belts or contamination of the power steering fluid. To correct this problem, you must first check the steering fluid. Make sure the vehicle has the ideal fluid level and top up with fluid if the fluid level is low. However, if the steering pump is defective or flawed, you will need to replace it to ensure that it operates properly.
Problem with a discharged battery
Many drivers have reported a discharged battery on their Ford B-Max. In most cases, it was an electrical fault in the vehicle. So before you decide that your battery is faulty, you should check that the electronics in your car are working properly. Also, some people forget to switch off the electronic system, which will cause the battery to discharge.
Electrical problems
The main cause of electrical problems in the Ford B-Max is the rapidly discharged battery. When the battery is discharged, some electrical parts are affected. As a result, you may experience blown fuses, wiring problems, among others. Make sure that the Ford B Max battery of your car is always charged to avoid most of these problems.

Defective rear window and broken mirrors
Some Ford B-Max users have reported a defective rear window. As a result, closing or opening the window becomes troublesome. The main cause of this problem is defective window seals. Since the window seals are not installed properly, they can become defective with age. Therefore, you need to replace the defective window seals with new ones. More often than not, if you have a broken wing mirror, it is neither a problem with the manufacturing process nor one that you may have caused. Damaged wing mirrors are often due to other drivers parking or driving too close to your vehicle, causing the mirrors to become cracked or broken off completely. If one, or both of your mirrors need to be replaced, this is easy to do by getting new Ford B Max wing mirror. A bit of elbow grease, and you’ll have them repaired in no time flat.
