KIA Stonic: engine problems and common breakdowns
The Kia Stonic, with its chic colours and snappy design, is intended to win over all those who are looking for an alternative to small cars. "B-SUV segment" - that's what the carmakers call the category into which the Stonic is classified. For those who don't know what to make of this cumbersome name: the Stonic is nothing more than a small car with a touch of off-road flair. With the Stonic, however, the emphasis is more on small cars. It is based on the Kia Rio and therefore offers hardly any more space despite the somewhat more opulent body. You could also simply call it a mini-SUV. The Korean car scores points for its good standard equipment and visual customisation options. Kia is among the world's top-quality car manufacturers and the Kia Stonic is considered to be one of the highest quality cars produced by this company although is not as flawless as it is supposed to be. Owners have experienced some issues with their car. Here we will talk about the most common problems that have been reported.
Kia Stonic problems and symptoms
The most common issue is an insufficiently charged starter battery. Especially in winter and on colder days, an empty or almost discharged car battery means that the engine of your Kia Stonic no longer wants to start or only starts sporadically. A clear indication of this is a sluggish starter motor that turns very slowly. If your Kia Stonic has a manual gearbox, the car can also be started by rolling it. You can also repair your gearbox with new Kia Stonic transmission parts. Please note: never attempt to start a car with an automatic transmission by rolling – this can cause considerable damage to the vehicle!

If you cannot register any activity from your starter, this is often an indication that the cables in the engine compartment are not intact. If this is the case, your battery may still be functioning and is not the cause of the problem. If ignition cables, power lines, and hoses are damaged (often as a result of a marten bite), you will most likely not be able to drive off immediately. In this case, the damaged cable/power line must be replaced before you can properly continue driving. Now is the time to check all cables and connectors and replace them with Kia Stonic accessories and parts, if necessary. Open the Kia Stonic bonnet and first check the cables and plugs or clamps on the battery terminals. If anything is loose, you're in luck - reattach the clamp properly to the battery terminal and your Kia could be ready to start again. Also, check the ignition system cables (you may need to remove the engine cover for this) and other visible hose connections in the engine compartment for broken cables or damage caused by animals. If you have ensured that the Kia Stonic battery is working properly (you can check this by switching on the high/low beam & other electrical components for a short time), the fuel system supply is the third most common reason for a car that will not start. Check the fuel gauge and take a quick look under the car to make sure that no fuel is escaping from a tank that may be leaking.
If the fuel gauge is correct and no fuel is leaking at all, a fuel line blockage or even a clogged fuel filter may be the cause of the problem. Car owners have also reported that they have Kia Stonic clutch problems. If you notice your gears slipping, we recommend taking it to your mechanic and having them take a look. In the worst case, it will have to be replaced.
Is the Kia Stonic a reliable car?
You may get the impression that you’ll have nothing but problems if you purchase this car. This, however, isn't the case. Although Kia owners have reported the above problems, many have had none at all and are more than satisfied with their purchase.
Every car can use a bit of a facelift and if you want to give your Kia a new look you can get some Kia Stonic car mats or even a new paint or wrap job with some sporty designs to make you and your car stand out wherever you go.
