Maxi-Cosi AxissFix Air child car seat with built-in airbags

Recently, the world-famous Canadian company Dorel Industries Inc., the owner of the Maxi-Cosi brand, has introduced the first in the history of automotive industry car chair with built-in airbags called AxissFix Air. It complies with the i-Size standards and can be used both rearward and forward facing, therefore, it suits children aged between 4 months and 4 years, 61–105 cm tall, and with the weight up to 19 kg.

Airbags are built in special pads on the straps and the cartridge with gas is integrated into the seat back. In case of front-on collision, the activation of the system takes only 0.015 seconds, airbags are inflated in 0.05 seconds. Overall, due to using this technology, the chance of head and neck injuries of a child is reduced by as much as 55%. The Isofix and Top Tether anchorage systems are used to fasten the seat, and special indicators ensure its correct installation and locking in place.

The Canadian invention is especially valuable with reference to the fact that using standard airbags does not protect a child from injuries but, on the contrary, increases the risk of them in case of an accident. According to the General German Automobile Club, if a child car seat with base is installed in the car, when frontal collision happens, the airbag intensely hits the back of the child seat, and the weight pressing on the neck and head of a child reaches 150 kg. It is deadly dangerous. Therefore, installing a child car seat on the front passenger seat, you should always deactivate the airbag.

The AxissFix Air chair is dedicated to solving this problem. The airbags are inflated at shoulder height, therefore, they do not injure the child, and they start deflating in a second after the activation. Apart from that, they use cold gas which reduces the risk of receiving burns.
