Michelin working on ultra high speed tyres

Tyres by the French manufacturer will be capable of withstanding a speed of 482 km/h.

Currently, the maximum speed of hypercars is actually limited not by engine power, but by the capabilities of tyres. The latter cannot endure extremely high loads, and it is already at 400 km/h that they endanger the driver and passengers. Therefore, car makers are forced to electronically limit the speed of their vehicles.

At Michelin, they are about to solve this problem in the very near future. According to an interview given by the company’s manager Eric Schmedding to the Bloomberg magazine, at present the engineers of the company are developing a tyre allowing to drive at a speed of 482.8 km/h.

A brand likely to become a potential customer for the revolutionary tyres is Bugatti: already today, its Veyron accelerates to 431 km/h, and the Chiron - to 420 km/h, but it’s not the limit. The new piece of technology will also be appreciated at Koenigsegg, as recently the Agera RS hypercar set a speed record of 447 km/h.

Another manufacturer awaiting the ultra high speed tyres is Hennessey Special Vehicles. It is expected that the Venom F5, a new model of the company with engine output of over 1600 HP, will be capable of reaching 482 km/h. And this calls for the appropriate tyres.
