Nissan Juke: Common problems and failures
According to a report by Caerus Capital, the Nissan Juke was the most popular used car during the pandemic with over 58,000 used Nissan Jukes sold in Europe in 2020 alone. The second generation of the small SUV is even more family-friendly and economical than its predecessor. Whether you’re looking to buy a Nissan Juke or already own one, this guide will help you to spot the signs of common faults and find the right solution.
Common problems with the Nissan Juke
Clutch problems
Some Nissan Juke owners have reported that the clutch pedal isn’t coming all the way back up after switching gears. This issue is often caused by a leak in the clutch master cylinder. Other possible causes include a worn release bearing, a faulty slave cylinder, and contaminated hydraulic lines. Premature clutch wear is another commonly reported issue for manual cars.
Automatic gearbox problems
The Nissan Juke is available with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The CVT gearbox found on 1.6 petrol models has been a common source of complaints. There have been cases of stalling during acceleration, resulting from a defective internal bearing in the transmission. CVT units can be costly to replace and repairs normally aren’t possible.

Battery problems
The average lifespan of a car battery is 4 to 6 years. When buying a used car, sooner or later, you may notice that the headlights are looking dimmer and the engine isn’t cranking properly. You may want to rule out other common faults before replacing the battery, such as alternator issues.

Fuel economy problems
You may notice that you are losing more fuel than usual and the car starts hard. The fuel pressure sensor has been the culprit for 3 out of 7 recalls of the Nissan Juke. There were issues with the sensor that were causing fuel leaks, posing a serious fire risk. The problem was identified in models produced between 2011 and 2013 and car owners were informed by the manufacturer.
Turbo faults
Juke owners have also reported problems with the turbocharger, which cause a loss of power, sluggish acceleration, and poor engine performance. These faults usually crop up as a result of a lack of lubrication due to a blocked oil feed. Changing your engine oil regularly is an easy way to prevent blockages from occurring.

Oxygen sensor faults
Signs of a failing oxygen sensor include an illuminated check engine light, a poor fuel economy, a rotten egg smell coming from the exhaust, and a misfiring engine. If you notice any of the above, make sure to get your car checked and fixed as soon as possible.
AC failure
Sometimes the air conditioning system on the Nissan Juke can fail and stop releasing cold air. If this happens you should check whether the pipes to the AC pump are damaged. It’s also possible that the AC system needs to be regassed.
