Common problems with the Renault Kangoo
- Starting problems
This is a pretty common issue for the Kangoo. You may find that the van won’t start at all and the preheating indicator light keeps flashing on the dashboard. There are a number of possible causes for this, such as poor battery connections, a bad fuel pump or blocked fuel hoses. - Fuel injector problems
Injector failure is a common issue for Kangoos with 1.5 dci engines. Contaminants, such as carbon deposits, oil residues and fuel impurities, can build up around the injectors nozzles, preventing them from spraying the correct amount of fuel. If the engine struggles to start, misfires and becomes less fuel efficient, it may be time to replace the injectors on your Renault Kangoo.
- Gearbox problems
Premature wear can be an issue for the gearboxes fitted to this model. when the gears regularly slip or won’t shift properly, it is often due to a worn gear linkage. You may hear strange noises coming from the transmission, such as grinding, bumping or squealing sounds.
- Problems with the van’s central locking system

- Timing belt troubles

- Fuel pump problems
If your Renault Kangoo’s fuel pressure is abnormally low, there’s a strong possibility that there’s something wrong with the Renault Kangoo fuel pump. Other symptoms of fuel pump failure include a loud whining noise coming from the fuel tank, starting difficulties, a sputtering or surging engine, and a loss of power when driving uphill or accelerating. Moreover, it is important to replace fuel filters on time to avoid pipe blockages and unnecessary wear in the fuel supply system.
- Stop & Start malfunction
There was a recall in 2019 due to a problem with the stop & start function in vehicles affecting vehicles built at the Maubeuge plant between 5 December 2018 and 19 February 2019. Due to the malfunction, there was a possibility that the engine would keep running while the van was stationary, increasing the risk of a road accident.
