(RYGOR) BUT GENUINE MERC OIL HAS BECOME PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE FOR ME.
MY CD115 HAS DONE 180,000 MILES, I'VE OWNED IT FROM 30,000, AND ALWAYS USED MERCEDES OIL.
SO, I'M A LITTLE RETICENT TO CHANGE,... I HAVE JUST UNDER 1/2 A 20 litre "LUBE CUBE" TO USE UP, BUT I'M THINKING, USE A SIMILAR FULLY SYNTHETIC OIL FOR 10,000 AND BUY SOME MERCEDES OIL FOR THE NEXT OIL CHANGE?...
OR JUST USE MY MB228.51 OIL AND BUY A LITRE FROM MERC, FOR TOPPING UP?!?

Mixing oils from different manufacturers (even if they have the same specification) - is not allowed.
Oil must be changed with the oil recommended by the manufacturer (if you cannot afford original oil this time, there are many more affordable options with the required specification).
If you need to top up use the same oil that was used during a complete oil change. (you cannot add different oil from another manufacturer, even if meets spec).
