The two starters you found You linked these: G60 starter → 02A911023EXF Normal 1.8/2.0 manual starter → 02A911023LF These are physically similar but used on different gearbox / bellhousing setups. The key difference: “with shaft” vs “without shaft” This is about the starter support shaft (nose shaft / bush support). Starter WITH shaft (G60 / some diesels) This type has a long nose shaft that sits in the gearbox bellhousing bush. Why? Older VW gearboxes used a bronze bush inside the gearbox to support the starter pinion shaft. These starters are used on: G60 supercharged Some diesels Some older gearboxes 👉 If your gearbox doesn’t have that bush, this starter will not fit correctly. Starter WITHOUT shaft (self-supporting) This is the later design. The starter has its own bearing inside, so it does NOT use the gearbox bush.
