Alfa Romeo GTAProduction of Alfa Romeo GTA sports car was carried out from 1965 to 1975. For a decade the model was in the lead at various world championships and successfully competed even with newer cars from other manufacturers. The company’s plant in Italy was engaged in the vehicle assembly. There were released 1735 copies in total.
History of Alfa Romeo GTAConcept presentation took place in 1962. The car was designed based on the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Development of the car design was led by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Gruppo Bertone. Production Alfa Romeo GTA car was presented in Amsterdam in February 1965. The car was produced in coupe body.
The concern produced a road (Stradale) and race (Corsa) Alfa Romeo GTA modifications. Aluminum alloys were widely used in the construction of cars to reduce the weight. Rivets were used to connect elements made of steel and aluminum.
Some powerplant elements were made of magnesium alloys. Most racing modifications of Alfa Romeo GTA had plastic used instead of glass. The car was equipped with light alloy wheels. As a result, the car's curb weight was just 795 kg.
The engine was placed in the front of the Alfa Romeo GTA body, and the drive was at the rear pair of wheels. All wheels were equipped with disc-type brakes. The vehicle had a spring independent front suspension with anti-roll bars and a rear spring suspension with telescopic shock absorbers.
Alfa Romeo GTA cars were extremely successful in motorsport, and repeatedly won competitions in Africa and South America. Sport modification Alfa Romeo GTA 1300 Junior brought victory to its team at all stages of the European Championship in 1972.
The modification Alfa Romeo GTA SA with a maximum speed of 240 km/h was the most rare one. For the period from 1968 to 1969 the company assembled 10 cars in total exclusively for use in motorsport. In 1975 the model was discontinued.
