Dacia Sandero model has been manufactured since 2008 till present. In different years, cars were being manufactured in Brazil (2007-2014), Romania (2008-2012) and Colombia (2008–2015). Since 2015 till present time, cars are manufactured in Iran. Assembling is also adjusted in Morocco and Russia.

In January, 2013, the Dacia Sandero model became the best car in its class, with cost less than 12 000 pounds, according to the British magazine What Car?.

The car debuted in 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The European premiere took place in March, 2008 at the Geneva Motor Show. The model was developed in the French technological center of the Renault company. Production of the first generation continued till 2012. Cars were constructed on the basis of the Dacia Logan sedan and differed from this car in the shortened wheelbase. Cars were produced in a body of a five-door hatchback.

The streamline body, the cambered radiator grille, massive wheel arches, bumpers painted in the colour of the body and stylish side mirrors became distinctive features of the exterior of Dacia Sandero model.

In 2012 at the Paris Motor Show the second generation of Dacia Sandero model was presented. Design of the new car was similar to the Dacia Logan model of the second generation. The dashboard was the same as Dacia Lodgy had. External changes affected the front bumper, head optics, rear headlights. Radiator grill had chromeplated inserts. The body became sportier, and the general design of the exterior — more dynamic. Cars of the second generation are also on sale in the market of Great Britain.

At design of this new model, the bigger attention was paid to safety. In 2013 the car of the second generation did well in the EuroNCAP crash tests with the results of four stars from five. The indicator of safety of the previous model was three stars only.

In some markets, including Russia, Egypt, South Africa and Mexico, the Dacia Sandero model is on sale under the name Renault Sandero.

In October, 2008, the Brazilian branch of the Renault Group manufactured Renault Sandero Stepway crossover, constructed on the basis of the five-door Dacia Sandero hatchback. Originally cars were on sale in Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and Mexico. In Europe the car was presented on May 7, 2009 at the Barcelona Motor Show. In the European market, crossovers are on sale under the name of Dacia. The Dacia Sandero Stepway car had a front black plastic bumper and the railing on the roof.
