Lexus ISLexus IS car production has continued from 1999 to the present. Assembly of these luxury cars is settled in Kanegasaki, Iwate, Japan. In 2005 and 2006 the marketing company J.D. Power and Associates called the model "the best vehicle in the entry luxury class." In 2006, the model was "The Best Executive Car" according to the British magazine Top Gear readers. In 2007, the design of Lexus IS was appreciated by the German iF International Design Forum GmbH: the model won the IF product design award.
Lexus IS XE10Release of the first generation cars continued from 1999 to 2005. The vehicles were produced in sedan and station wagon. The length, width and height of the car body were 4400, 1720 and 1420 mm respectively.
The model had a sweeping eye-catching exterior, created by smooth lines and a streamlined body. External features of the car were expressive headlamps with integrated turn indicators, extending to fenders, a narrow grille devoid of edging and a wide air intake hole. The fuel tank and the battery were moved as close to the center as possible. Due to this particular design optimal weight distribution between the axles was achieved and handling on turns improved.
In the car design particular attention was paid to safety. Standard equipment included active safety systems - ABS and EBD, and four airbags.
Lexus IS XE20In March 2005 at the Geneva Motor Show a second generation prototype Lexus IS XE20 made its debut. A month later, the production car was presented at the New York Auto Show. The second-generation model production continued until 2010. Cars were produced in the sedan.
Compared to its predecessor, the updated car had a more complex geometry of the hood, improved aerodynamics and increased sizes. The body of the second generation model was 185 mm longer, 80 mm wider and 5 mm higher. The car’s interior design was made in sports style. The gear change lever and pedals were made from aluminum.
Since 2005 the release of Lexus IS F-Sport sedans commenced. The vehicles got side mirrors with electrochromic glass, a rear spoiler, body-colored door sill plates, a windscreen with water-repellent coating and a UV filter, as well as 19-inch wheels.
Lexus IS XE20 restylingIn 2010 the second generation model Lexus IS was facelifted. After the upgrade, not only sedans, but also four-seater coupe-cabriolets were produced. External changes have affected the front and rear bumpers. The automobile acquired new headlights with LED and HID lamps. The side rear-view mirrors got side indicators.
Coupe-Cabriolet had a hardtop composed of three parts. Folding process was carried out automatically in 20 seconds.
