Production of the German ORV - Mercedes-Benz G-class - began in 1979 and continues till present. In addition to high popularity at private consumers, the car was widely adopted in divisions of armed forces of many countries of the world. Today three generations and three restylings of a car are released.

The company presented first generation of the Mercedes-Benz G-class in 1979. The blocking differentials and the connected four-wheel drive were intended to increase the passability. The car was released in bodies of a cabriolet, the three-door and five-door ORV.

In 1981 the car began to be equipped with automatic transmission. In 1983 Mercedes-Benz G-Klas W460 280G won the first prize in the Paris-Dakar Rally. Since 1986 the car was equipped with the catalyst converter of exhaust gases. Sales of the model of the first generation came to the end in 1991.

Mercedes-Benz G-class W461 is still produced for army and the emergency services needs.

In 2009 the car got new disks and minor changes in design of the radiator grille. Also new colours of the body were available.

In 1990 the company arranged production of Mercedes-Benz G-class W463. The car had four-wheel drive, electronic control of differentials blocking and the ABS system. The producer used leather and a natural wood in the passenger compartment trimming.

In 2001 the company redesigned the dashboard significantly, and also added the rain sensor and climate control. The car got new Tiptronic automatic transmission. Since 2002 systems of emergency braking and ESP stabilization were included in a basic package.

In 2007 restyling concerned front and back optics, and in 2009 it concerned disks and a radiator grille. In 2012 the producer changed the design of front and back bumpers, and also a radiator grille shape. Today the range of bodies includes a cabriolet, a four-door pickup and a five-door ORV. Mercedes-Benz G-class W463 is produced till present.
