Mercedes-Benz SLK Class is a small sports car produced by the German concern Daimler AG. It is released since 1996 till present. It is considered that the name of these series is translated from German as "sports, light and compact". The model is produced in Bremen, Germany. Today three generations and two restylings of this car are presented. Since 2016 the model is renamed into Mercedes-Benz SLC Class

In 1994 the management of the Mercedes-Benz company declared the start of production of the new sports car - SLK class R170 - at the Parisian automobile exhibition. Nevertheless, stock production of the car for the European market began only in 1996, and one year later — for the American market. The model is produced only in a roadster body.

Actually the Mercedes-Benz model SLC Class became reincarnation of previous successful model of Mercedes-Benz - 190SL. The car had bright design of the body and remarkable characteristics of driving.

The new system of a panoramic roof - "Vario-Roof" - which was put in action by means of five controllers became the specific design element. The trunk volume was increased from 145 up to 348 liters when the roof was lifted.

In 2000 designers carried out restyling of the model. Within restyling the emphasis was placed on improvement of principal specifications of the car. Besides, the radiator grille, the front bumper, rear-view mirrors were updated, and also new colours of painting were added.

The engine was considerably modified and system of multispark ignition which allowed to make multiple inflaming of composite fuel throughout one step of driving of the cylinder was installed.

Designers started production of the second generation of the model in 2004. The design of an exterior became more angular: the shape of the hood, front headlights and both bumpers was changed. The design of the radiator grille later became a classical one for cars of this model. The designer of concern described style of the car as "inspired by Formula 1".

Systems of power windows and roof controllers were improved, an option of electric stabilization of the car was added and the aerodynamics was optimized.

In 2008 at the automobile show in Detroit the updated model of the second generation was presented. New rear-view mirrors were set on the car, the design of front and back bumpers was changed.

Engines were considerably upgraded and the system of fuel supply and distribution was improved that increased the power of engines of all modifications and at the same time reduced fuel consumption. Besides, designers installed more perfect electronic driving stabilizer.

Mercedes-Benz SLK class of the third generation was for the first time presented at the automobile show in Geneva in 2011 in spite of the fact that the concept appeared in 2008. The company presented innovative system of hatch design - the Magic Sky Control. Designers updated the shape of headlights, radiator grille and improved the interior.

In 2015 the updated third generation of the Mercedes-Benz SLK Class model was presented. Updating was dated for the 20 anniversary of the original Mercedes-Benz SLK Class model. The nose began to look more aggressively — style of hood and bumper was changed. Besides, slight reorganization of engines allowed to get larger efficiency in all modifications.
