Mitsubishi Eclipse
Production of Mitsubishi Eclipse sports cars lasted from 1989 to 2011. Assembling of cars was organized in Normal, USA. In 1989-1992 the model was included into the TOP 10 of best cars according to the Car and Driver magazine. In 1995 and 1996 the car got the "Driver's Choice Award" title, awarded within the American TV programme of MotorWeek.
Mitsubishi Eclipse 1G
Mitsubishi Eclipse of the first generation was produced in 1989-1992. The car was constructed on the basis of the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 model. The car was released in a coupe body and had a dynamic silhouette. Thanks to the streamlined shape of the body, the car had good aerodynamics. The back spoiler and front and back windows emphasise the sporty design of the exterior. The pop-up headlights became the distinctive feature of the car of the first generation.
In the inner trimming of the passenger compartment of the coupe the emphasis was placed on comfort and safety. The driver's seat had a wide range of adjustments. Safety was ensured by the reinforcement ribs located under the ceiling upholstery and inside the doors, and also by the crush zones in the body absorbing impact energy in case of an accident
Mitsubishi Eclipse 1G restyling
In 1992 there was a restyling of the first generation of the car. Changes affected the front bumper mainly. Also producers discontinued the usage of pop-up headlights. The list of standard options included anti-lock brake system (ABS).
Mitsubishi Eclipse 2G
From 1995 to 1997 cars of the second generation were manufactured. Besides coupes, Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder cabriolets were produced. When designing the Mitsubishi Eclipse model of the second generation, the exterior was completely changed. The body of the car had a rounded shape. Its dimensions were also changed. In comparison with the predecessor, the coupe became 35 mm longer, 45 mm wider and 10 mm lower. The corresponding parameters of the body of the car of the first generation were 4 340, 1 690 and 1 305 mm. Because of the increased sizes of the car, the passenger compartment of Mitsubishi Eclipse 2G became more spacious. Double airbags were included in the standard package.
Mitsubishi Eclipse 2G restyling
In 1997 the model of the second generation underwent restyling. External changes affected the shape of front optics, in particular, fog lights, and rear bumper was also changed. 17-inch disks instead of 16-inch were installed in more powerful modifications. In 1999 the passenger compartment made of black leather was available as an option.
Mitsubishi Eclipse 3G
In 1998 at the North American International motor show, the third generation of the Mitsubishi Eclipse model debuted. Stock cars were produced from 2000 to 2005. The car had sculpted doors and flares over wheel arches. The shape of headlights was changed. Fog lights did not have black frames any more. As an extra option, chrome plated discs with five spokes were offered.
Mitsubishi Eclipse 4G
From 2006 to 2009, release of the fourth generation was done. The large emblem of the company, dividing the radiator front grille into two parts, distinguished the car from the predecessor. Changes affected the tail of the body. The hatch with the electric drive was available as an extra option. 17-inch light-alloy discs were included in the basic package.
Mitsubishi Eclipse 4G restyling
In 2009 there was a restyling of the fourth generation of the car. The model debuted at the Chicago motor show in 2008. A black plastic cover appeared on the front bumper. Changes affected fog lights also.
