Porsche Carrera GT
The sport Porsche Carrera GT was released from 2003 to 2006. Cars were assembled in Leipzig, Germany. The car was produced in a targa body.
History of Porsche Carrera GT creation
Producers presented the concept car in 2000 at the motor show in Paris. Later, at the Geneva motor show in 2004 the company presented the stock car.
Since 1992 the Porsche Company developed the new engine which intended for a McLaren team in F1 races. However because of lack of financing, the project was suspended. Later the designers returned to the groundwork on the engine again, this time having increased its volume to 5,7 liters. Porsche Company planned to use these cars for the races "24 hours of Le Mans", but works on implementation of the project were stopped again. As a result, the engine found the application in a new sport car - Porsche Carrera GT.
Porsche Carrera GT cars are the first stock sports cars of the company where a unibody construction was used. For its creation the reinforced carbon fabrics were used. Thanks to the type of design and materials used, weight of the car was 1,380 kg only.
The exterior of the car was traditional for the sports Porsche models. The car had an oblong hood. Lines of the body were abrupt and dynamic. The tail also was oblong because of the central arrangement of the engine. The complex system of air vents and air dams provided fast cooling to the powerful engine. The geometry of the bottom was as close as possible to racing cars. Behind the passenger compartment, the body was decorated with a stylish metal protective arch. On the rear wing of the car, there was a spoiler, which would automatically retract at speeds of 120 km/h and above.
For interior trimming, soft quality leather was used. The start button was located to the left from the steering wheel, as well as in other sport cars of the company. The arrangement of seats and the dashboard was realized with the maximal convenience for the driver.
The list of free options, among which there was air conditioner, unique Bose speaker system, custom-order interior trimming, etc. was available to car owners.
During production only 1270 copies of the car (1500 were planned) were produced.
