Volvo C30The production of Volvo C30 3-doors hatchbacks continued from 2006 to 2013. During that time a single generation and a restyling of the car were released. Assembly lines were placed in Gent, Belgium.
Volvo C30 IIn 2006 Volvo C30 Design Concept was presented at the Detroit Auto Show. The front part of the car was designed like other Volvo models. The design of cars’ rear part was more original. The specific feature of the exterior was fully glass oval-shaped rear door. The front and rear bumpers, and also wheel arch linings and sills were colored in gold color.
The production model debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 2006. Car’s design was borrowed from the concept car, presented earlier. The Volvo C30 hatchback looked stylish and dynamic. The car had four separate seats. A narrow B-pillar provided the comfortable access to the rear seats. A bright red or blue interior trim, either a contrast black-red interior could be already ordered in the basic package. Aluminum insets were used as decorative elements.
The Volvo C30 were equipped with leading electronic technologies. The Interior Air Quality System (IAQS) analyzed the carbonyl concentration in the air and in case of overdosing automatically closed the air intakes. The Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS) controlled the situation and blocked the phone calls in case, if they endangered traffic safety.
In 2007 the car won Die besten Autos competition which is held annually by Auto Motor und Sport German magazine since 1976.
Volvo C30 I generation restylingThe Volvo C30 hatchbacks were restyled in 2009. The car’s design was slightly modernized. A form of headlights and air intakes was changed. Radiator grille was made in the form of honeycomb. New bumpers were installed on the cars. A radiator grille and air intakes had the chrome framing in some packages.
In 2010 the car won Motorist Choice Award, adjudged by IntelliChoice, the famous car website, and AutoPacific Company, which explores the car market. The Volvo C30 hatchback won a nomination of «The most attractive car-2010».
The production of the Volvo C30 cars was being continued till 2013.
Volvo C30 ElectricIn 2009 the prototype of Volvo C30 BEV electric car was presented. The production model debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in 2010. Design of the car was practically no different from the other Volvo C30 hatchbacks. The spaciousness of the cabin was saved: the batteries were located in a “T” shape, one side of which was hidden in the central tunnel, and other filled the gasoline tank place. Volvo C30 Electric’s driving distance was 150 km, and the battery was fully charged of home network in 7 hours. The petrol was also used in the electric car: cabin’s climate control ran at bioethanol E85, which consisted of 85 % of ethanol and 15% of petrol.
