Volkswagen Amarok
Volkswagen Amarok is a pick-up truck, that was released in 2010 and is being produced to this day.
The name “Amarok” can be translated as “bloodthirsty wolf” from the language of the Inuits. In Romance languages the name is associated with the phrase “the one who loves stones”. In Irish a word phonetically similar also exists meaning “tomorrow”.
The history of creating Volkswagen Amarok
In 2005 the company Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles officially stated their intention of creating a mid-size family pickup that would differentiate itself by its safety and comfort.
The first prototype of the new car Volkswagen Pickup Concept was released in 2007. The car was presented by the concern at the Toyota Hilux base. The exterior design and passenger compartment layout of the model was the work of the famous automobile designer - Walter de Silva. The constructors were actually not interested in revealing the specific features of the design until the very last moment, however, in 2008 images of the car could be found on the internet.
Volkswagen Amarok was publicly presented for the very first time in 2010 on an automobile exhibition in Buenos Aires in Argentina. The car was made in two versions - a two door and a four door pickup model.
In the series of Euro NCAP crash-tests the model received four stars out of the possible five. A year later, at the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) the automobile showed maximum results.
The model aroused a huge recognition within the public arena. In prolongation of that, the automobile Volkswagen Amarok received a large amount of prizes and titles from popular international automobile periodicals:
- “Pickup Truck of the Year” from “Auto Esporte”, Brazil, 2011;
- “Pickup Truck of the Year” from “Parabrisas”, Argentina, 2011;
- “The international Pickup Truck of the Year”, United Kingdom, 2011;

The automobile was made in three configurations: Base, Trendline and Highline. The Highline model was equipped with a chrome grille, improved rear-view mirrors, and stylish trims in the passenger compartment. The seats were also upholstered with natural leather.
Due to popularity of the pickup truck the management of Volkswagen decided to produce a few limited editions of the automobile.
Volkswagen Amarok XXL was made with an extended wheelbase, more luggage space, and a more powerful motor.
