Volkswagen New Beetle
Volkswagen New Beetle is a car produced from 1997 to 2011. The design of the car repeated basic elements of the classical Volkswagen Beetle model. At the same time, the car kept all remarkable elements of original model and gained a set of additional features.
Volkswagen New Beetle І generation
Development of the modern car on the basis of popular model began in 1991.
Volkswagen Concept One was presented at the North American international automobile festival in 1994. This modern car exterior is done in retro style. It was based on Volkswagen Polo. These models had radiator grilles, fenders, front and back headlights, almost identical in shape, and a rounded roof.
The Volkswagen New Beetle car was released in three-door hatchback and cabriolet bodies. The concept of New Beetle Convertible with a folding roof was presented at the automobile show in Geneva in 1995.
Testing of the model and its elaborating was conducted for some more years. The car came to stock production in 1998 only.
Volkswagen New Beetle received the "Import Car of Year" title from the Motor Trend magazine in 1999.
In 2003 engineers created special four-wheel drive sports modification of Volkswagen New Beetle RSi. It got suspension from the Porsche company, a sports body with a spoiler and an aerodynamic tuning. Some spare parts were replaced with lightweight aluminium and carboxylic alloys.

In 2005 the updated Volkswagen New Beetle cars were presented at the International automobile festivals in Shanghai and New York.
Engineers reduced the size of fenders of the car a little and improved aerodynamics of the body. As a result, the car had excellent controllability even when driving on high speeds. Besides, developers changed the shape of front and back headlights — they became oval. Also the shape of rear bumpers was changed, and rear marker lights were established at the lower level.
In 2005 at the auto show in New York, engineers presented one more special modification under the name of Volkswagen New Beetle Ragster. It received the four-wheel drive, the powerful engine, the reinforced suspension and the reduced shape of the roof.
In EuroNCAP crash tests in 2010, the model received four stars from five, and special modifications of 2011 in similar researches received five stars from five.
In 2010 the concern released the last special modification which received the name Volkswagen New Beetle Final Edition. Developers installed anti-lock brake system (ABS), a sports suspension, system of electronic stability control (ESP). Besides, the car received the stylized two-colour interior design.
Volkswagen Beetle
Developers removed the word "New" from the name of new generation of the model, having changed it to Volkswagen Beetle. The official presentation of the car took place in 2011 at the automobile exhibitions in Shanghai and New York. Marketing campaign was started earlier therefore interest in model was very high.
Designers changed design of the body cardinally, having brought it closer to the original Volkswagen Beetle. Also designers considerably increased the size of the trunk and improved the interior. The updated car was based on the A5 (PQ35) platform and was assembled in France, Italy and Brazil.
Since 2012 the concern has produced a wide range of special modifications of the Volkswagen Beetle model: Black Turbo, Fender Edition, Xbox special edition, Beetle GSR Limited Edition, R-Line.
