Distinctive features

• Framed design. The frames were made of a durable metal and were characterized by reliability, resistance to corrosion and the ability to carry heavy loads. The later models carried a 20-year factory warranty.
• Easy Maintenance. Outer body panels were easy to remove and were fixed to the frame with bolts - making body repairs significantly easier.
• Engine durability. The 2-stroke engines ran smoothly and were fitted with only 7 moveable parts. If maintained properly, these engines had a life span of 150,000 to 200,000 km, similar to more expensive 4-stroke engines.
• Low price. The simplicity of design and structure meant that Wartburg cars were relatively cheap. Owing to the affordable price tag and mass availability, the make was popular not just in the country but also outside it: in Belgium, Finland, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, Denmark, Greece, Iceland, Spain and the USA.
• Rich equipment list. Even the first models came with the option of panoramic windows, a roof hatch, adjustable seats, leather upholstery and other features.
