Have you ever bought this product from AUTODOC: ATE Expansion Tank, brake fluid 03.3508-4903.3?
Customer reviews and star ratings help our customers learn more about a product and decide whether it is worth buying. A complex algorithm is used to calculate the star rating, taking into consideration how long ago the review was made, whether the item was actually purchased in the AUTODOC online shop, and whether it was returned or not.
The tag "verified purchase" allows you to find reviews from customers who have actually purchased the item in question from the AUTODOC online shop. The "verified purchase" label applies to reviews of items purchased from the same account the reviews were submitted from. We still consider reviews without the "verified purchase" tag to be important, but we can't guarantee that the items described in such reviews were purchased in the AUTODOC online shop.
Questions and answers
R.L.: Could this bottle be used as a coolant expansion bottle on a marine diesel engine? Does the lid have a pressure cap? My boat’s engines have little plastic bottles to catch any expanded coolant water but can’t siphon back as the bottle is top entry & the hose doesn’t go all the way in. These bottom entry bottles look like they’d do the trick. Many thanks!

www.autodoc.co.uk:
Dear customer,
Thank you for your question.
Expansion Tank, brake fluid 03.3508-4903.3 ATE is not recommended to use as a Marine Diesel Coolant Expansion Tank. It is an Expansion Tank (Brake Fluid) and it is designed to hold brake fluid, not coolant. Here's why:
1) Materials are not compatible:
- Brake fluid and coolant (antifreeze) have different chemical compositions. Plastic used for brake reservoirs is not always resistant to heat, pressure, and coolant properties.
2) It is not designed for pressure:
- The cooling system of a marine diesel engine can operate under pressure (usually 1 bar or more) and this tank is not designed to withstand such loads.
3) Capacity and strength:
- The capacity and shape of the tank may be too small or unsuitable for the marine diesel engine. This may result in overheating or leaks.
Expansion Tank, brake fluid 03.3508-4903.3 ATE has a hermetically sealed cap as required for the brake system: brake fluid is hygroscopic and should not come into contact with air. However, this seal is not designed to release excess pressure like radiator caps or coolant reservoirs and there is no pressure valve, as required in cooling systems.
