Chrysler VoyagerProduction of Chrysler Voyager cars is carried out at the plants in Windsor, Canada, in Fenton, the USA, and also in Graz, Austria since 1983 till present. This car is considered one of the first minivans. Today more than 13 million cars are released.
Chrysler Voyager I–III generationThe first generation of a front drive Chrysler Voyager minivan went on sale in 1983. In the European market the model appeared in 1987. The car was developed on the Chrysler S platform as the comfortable and efficient family car suitable for use in the conditions of oil crisis.
The passenger compartment of the car turned out very spacious and had 5 - 8 seats. The majority of Chrysler Voyager modifications in a basic package had the air conditioner. Three-zonal climate control and a leather inner trimming were offered as extra options.
In 1991 the company presented the second generation of Chrysler Voyager constructed on the Chrysler AS platform. The nose of the car had a chopped wedge-shaped form. Massive metal bumpers were replaced by plastic ones.
Production of the third generation of Chrysler Voyager began in 1996. The car was designed on the Chrysler GS and Chrysler NS platforms. The body of Chrysler Voyager of the third generation became less angular. Designers improved efficiency and aerodynamics of the car significantly. In 2000 Chrysler Voyager SE could overcome more than 1700 km without refueling.
Modification of each generation of Chrysler Voyager with the increased wheel base was called Chrysler Grand Voyager.
Chrysler Voyager IV generationIn March, 2001 at the motor show in Detroit the company presented the fourth generation of Chrysler Voyager. When developing this car, designers used the Chrysler RG and Chrysler RS platforms.
The car had the Swivel n Go system, unique for the time, allowing to unroll or to completely put off the seats of the second row. Folding table was located in the passenger compartment and seatbacks of a back row could be put to increase the trunk volume.
Chrysler Voyager V generation Chrysler Voyager of the fifth generation on the Chrysler RT platform went on sale in 2008. Ralph Gillesdirected development of the design of this car. Designers managed to solve problems with safety, typical for this model, in case of frontal and side crash.
The car differs in smoothness of the course and effective noise isolation. It is possible not only to put the second and the third rows of seats if necessary, but also to hide them under the floor of baggage compartment. Adjustment of seats is carried out by electric drives.
In a basic package the fifth generation of Chrysler Voyager is equipped with climate control, heating of side mirrors and front seats, the navigation system, and also the audio system.
Chrysler Voyager in the markets of the different countriesIn North America the model was on sale under the Plymouth and Dodge brands since 1983 but in 2001 these brands were abolished. Since autumn of 2011, Chrysler Voyager of the fifth generation is on sale in the majority of the countries of Europe under the Lancia brand.
