Mazda Premacy
Production of Mazda Premacy minivans started in 1999 and was carried out till 2016. In total, three generations of the model and two restylings were presented. Release of these cars was organized in Hiroshima (Japan), Hong Kong (China) and in Taiwan.
Mazda Premacy I generation
Mazda Premacy of the first generation was produced in 1999-2001. The official premiere took place at the Geneva motor show in 1999. The model was constructed on the basis of Mazda Familia sedan from which it inherited many technical characteristics. The compact size, elegant design, capacious passenger compartment, good controllability and smooth motion were the main advantages of Mazda Premacy minivans. All seats, except driver's one, could be folded or removed completely, increasing the volume of baggage compartment. Also seats could be easily transformed to little tables. The rational organization of internal space was emphasised by about thirty containers and drawers for storage of small things.
Mazda Premacy I generation restyling
In 2001 cars of the first generation were subjected to restyling. The car had a new bumper with a wide air inlet. Outlines of headlights and the radiator grille became more angular. Tail lights were renewed.
Mazda Premacy II generation
In 2005 the second generation of Mazda Premacy minivans was released. Sliding side doors were installed on the cars instead of wing doors — it allowed to enlarge the doorway and to make access to the rear seats easier. As an additional option the electric drive for sliding doors was offered. The design of the vehicle became more stylish and dynamic. Narrow tear-shaped headlights were effectively emphasised with expressive power bulges of the hood. The falling line of a roof gave the sports look to the car.
In these cars, airbag deactivation system, a Mazda innovation, was installed for the first time. The system was capable to recognize automatically adult passengers and children, adjusting airbags and seatbelts as appropriate.
Mazda Premacy II generation restyling
In 2007 restyling of the second generation of Mazda Premacy took place. The car got a new bumper, more expressive radiator grille and renewed headlights.
Mazda Premacy III generation
The third generation of Mazda Premacy minivans debuted in 2010 at the motor show in Geneva. The design of the car was executed in style of the Mazda Nagare concept car shown in 2006 at the motor show in Los Angeles. The radiator grille had the shape of a smile, and sculpted power bulges on side panels of the car gave dynamism to the exterior. Taillights were located horizontally.
Mazda Premacy III minivans had rich equipment. In different packages heated seats and mirrors, the electric drive of seats, glasses and mirrors, tinted glass with protection against ultraviolet, leather finishing of interior, climate control with odour absorption, and also a set of modern electronic systems were available.
Mazda Premacy in the markets of different countries
Outside domestic Japanese market, Mazda Premacy cars are known under Mazda5 name. In the market of Taiwan Ford i-Max minivan was on sale, in China — Haima Freema. Also the car was on sale as Nissan Lafesta.
