Production of BMW cars of 6 series started in 1976 and proceeds to the present. Today three generations and three restylings of model were presented. Assembling of the car is carried out in Dingolfinge (Germany).

BMW model of 6 series debuted within the Geneva showroom of 1976. The mass production of the first generation proceeded from 1976 to 1982. The BMW E24 car was presented in a coupe body. The design of the car was borrowed from the BMW Turbo concept car. BMW cars of 6 series were characterized by the high level of reliability and safety. Discs brakes were included in the standard package, and cars were equipped with ABS for an extra fee.

The restyled car of the first generation of BMW of 6 series appeared in the European market in 1982, and in the market of the USA in 1983. Changes concerned an interior and an exterior in insignificant degree. In 1987 one more restyling took place. The leather interior, the electric drive of seats, the air-conditioning system and factory toning of glasses began to be included in a basic set.

From 1989 to 2003 production BMW of 6 series was suspended. The new coupe of BMW of 6 series with the E63 index was presented only within the Frankfurt showroom-2003. Besides a coupe BMW E64 cabriolets began to be released also. Production of the second generation of BMW of 6 series proceeded till 2007.

In 2007 there was a restyling of BMW cars of 6 series of the second generation. Changes mainly concerned the technical units.

In 2010 the concept of a cabriolet of BMW 6 of the F12 series was presented at the Parisian showroom. In Germany the serial model appeared on sale in 2011. Same year the producer presented a coupe of the third generation of BMW 6 of the F13 series also. Later within the Geneva showroom the sedan of BMW 6 of the F06 series known under the name BMW 6 Gran Coupe debuted. BMW cars of 6 series of the third generation are the combination of modern design, high level of comfort and innovative technologies. Cars are equipped with the advanced systems of active and passive safety. The car differs from representatives of the previous generations in the updated body with the modernized head optics. Also the car has the increased dimensions and an advanced suspender with sports settings.
