Hyundai GetzHyundai Getz is a car produced from 2002 to 2011. It was widespread in the world, but wasn't imported in the markets of Canada, the USA and China. The car was manufactured in bodies of 3-and a 5-door hatchbacks only.
Initially the car was manufactured only in South Korea, but after success in the countries of Europe and Asia, it was decided to manufacture this model at the plant in Indonesia.
Hyundai Getz І generationThe concept of the Hyundai Getz model was presented in 2001 at the Tokyo Motor Show as Hyundai TB. After completion and additional testing, the car was presented at the Geneva Motor Show.
The design of Hyundai Getz was developed by the German experts in the Frankfurt branch of the South Korean company. The car had rather modest exterior, simple interior design and a capacious baggage compartment.
It is remarkable that different modifications are called differently for each market . In the majority of the markets, designers offered the basic, improved and sports modifications. To some countries (for example, New Zealand) the sports modification wasn't imported.
The most expensive modification had the anti-lock brake system (ABS) and traction control system (ASR), frontal and side airbags, system of remote opening of doors with the built-in signalling, 14-inch wheel disks, air conditioner, heating of rear-view mirrors and glasses, CD player and on-board computer. As additional options in the European and Australian markets, buyers could install a system of electronic control of stability (ESP), leather covering of seats and elements of interior, chrome-plated inserts in interior design and cruise control system.
In 2004 during EuroNCAP crash tests the Hyundai Getz model received four stars from five.
The car was awarded a number of titles from the international automobile editions:
- "The best small car in Australia" in 2003 and 2005;
- "The best small car in Scotland" in 2003;
- "The budget car of the year" from the magazine "What Car?" in 2003;
- "The best-selling car in Denmark" in 2003;
- "The Portuguese car of the year" in 2004.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2005 developers presented the restyled Hyundai Getz model. Designers changed the front part of the body a little. The headlights were pointed and the radiator grill was modified.
Besides, developers added a number of modifications. Engineers reduced the level of fuel consumption and increased the power of motors at the same time a little. transmissions and suspension were elaborated as well.
In 2008 designers presented an electric version of a model which came out under the name Hyundai Getz Blade Electron. Its maximum speed equaled 120 km/h, and cruising range on completely charged accumulators was 120 km.
Hyundai Getz in the markets of the different countriesBy tradition, in the domestic South Korean market all Hyundai models have other names, than the models for the international export. Hyundai Getz in South Korea is called Hyundai Click.
In India the model was called Hyundai Getz Prime, in Japan — Hyundai TB (the abbreviation was deciphered as "Think Basic" that in translation meant "think differently").
The model was sold in Malaysia (Inokom Getz) and Venezuela (Dodge Brisa) with different names.
