Jaguar XJ
Jaguar XJ has been produced since 1968 till present. In total four generations of the model and four restylings have been presented. In different years, production of these cars was organized in Great Britain, New Zealand, India and South Africa. The car is the official car of the royal family and the prime minister of Great Britain.
Model I generation
The first generation Jaguar XJ was released in 1968-1973. The car resembled other Jaguar models in its looks: it had the same round double headlights, power bulge on the bonnet and the arc-shaped line of the profile. The body of Jaguar XJ Series I was less roundish, than the body of Jaguar Mark X or Jaguar 420. For an inner trimming leather was used in a basic package already. As an option, the air conditioner was offered.
Model I generation restylings
The first restyling of these cars took place in 1973. The updated cars had the Series II index. The main changes concerned bumpers, the radiator grille, some elements of the interior.
In 1979 Jaguar XJ Series III was presented. The design of the car was developed by the known studio Pininfarina. The bumpers with rubber pads, the new radiator grille with vertical bars and large tail lights were installed on the car. The glazing area was increased. These cars were produced till 1992.
Model XJ40
The debut of cars of the second generation took place in 1986 at the International motor show in Birmingham. Release of cars of this generation was carried out till 1994. The design of Jaguar XJ became more angular. On some modifications, there were rectangular headlights. In expensive packages, window borders had chrome edges. A digital dashboard was placed in the passenger compartment.
In 1993 the car won the title of the safest car of Britain according to the results of government tests.
Model X300 and X308
Restyling of cars of the second generation took place in 1994. The design of Jaguar XJ X300 was borrowed from cars of the first generations. Round double headlights strikingly matched the power bulge on the bonnet. Lines of the body became smoother. Bumpers were integrated into the body.
The second restyling of the model was carried out in 1997. These cars are known as Jaguar XJ X308. Changes in design were insignificant: fog lights became round, while direction indicators got oval. Walnut wood inserts were used for decoration of the interior.
Model X350
The third generation of the model was released from 2003 to 2007. The new aluminium body allowed to reduce car weight by 40% in comparison with the predecessor. The car exterior stayed practically unchanged. Jaguars XJ X350 featured dual-zone climate control, satellite navigation and the Alpine audio system. The Jaguar Voice system made various functions voice-activated.
Model X358
In 2007-2009 there was a restyling of the third generation of Jaguar XJ. These cars featured new radiator grilles, bumpers, and an updated logo.
Model X351
In 2009 the fourth generation of Jaguar XJ was released. Producers modified the design drastically: the car had narrow slanted headlights, a large radiator grille, a panoramic roof and massive bumpers. Sharp lines of the body, a floating roof and curved rear pillars gave Jaguar XJ X351 similarity with a sports coupe.
