Kia RioKia Rio had been produced since 2000 till now. Originally, manufacturers produced sedan models and five-door wagon; now sedan and five-door hatchback are available only.
Developing of this model was in cooperation with Ford. This model is produced in South Korea, China, Russia, Vietnam and Iran.
Kia Rio DCFrist Kia Rio first generation was presented in 2000. There were two versions – sedan and station wagon. Body forms were roundish, headlights were drop-shaped; there were small radiator grill and massive plastic bumper.
Company administration made decision to hold marketing campaigns for cars with different bodies separately. In the USA wagon was called Rio Cinco, in Canada – Rio RX-V, in Chili – Rio Look. More powerful models were produced for export, while economy models were popular on home market.
Basic configuration included airbags and ABS. Electric power steering and tachometer could be installed as additional options.
Kia Rio DC faceliftModel restyling took place in 2002. Form of headlights and hood changed. Moreover, engines, suspension and braking system were improved.
On home market car got name Kia Rio SF, which means Science Fiction and Safety First.
Kia Rio JBSecond Kia Rio generation (JB) was presented in 2005. Car had a new exterior design and renewed wheelbase. Safety level was increased and fuel consumption increased. Production of hatchback instead of wagon started.
In 2007, Kia announced creation of Kia Rio hybrid modification. 4000 cars were produced; most of them were sold on domestic market.
Kia Rio JB faceliftExterior design was renewed in 2009. Bumper form changed, tiger-nose radiator grille was mounted, and wheel rims shape was standardized. Engineers improved front and side marker lights and fog lights as well. Side moldings became narrow and body-colored.
Kia Rio UBThird Kia Rio generation (UB) was presented on Geneva Motor Show in 2011. Exterior design was changed and became more aggressive. Headlights form became more complicated; corner radiator grille and massive bumpers were mounted. Moreover, there was a pilot run of two-door sedan but this model didn’t gain popularity.
Engines also underwent changes. New Hyundai GDI Gamma engines were mounted on this modification.
Kia Rio UB production expanded to Malaysia and Indonesia.
This car became popular in Europe and took titles “Irish Car of the Year” and “Car of the Year” according to Carsguide in 2011. In 2012, it took title “Scottish Car of the Year” and “Slovak Car of the Year”.
Kia Rio UB faceliftKia Rio UB underwent restyling in 2015. Exterior design became more angular: head lights and radiator grille were narrowed, form of both bumpers, hood and fog lights changed.
