Production of Lexus SC luxury cars lasted from 1991 to 2010. The model assembly is carried out in the Japanese city of Shizuoka. With its stylish sporty design, high build quality and good technical performance in 1992 the car was named «Import Car of the Year» by a popular US magazine Motor Trend. From 1992 to 1998 the model was in the Top Ten cars by the Car and Driver magazine.

The Lexus SC model was launched on July 1, 1991 in the United States. It was initially focused on the US market. Lexus SC cars of the first generation were produced in the coupe body.

In the design of cars, special attention was paid to safety. The body has carefully designed crumple zones that absorb the force of impact in case of collision. Four airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS) are standard options.

In 1996, the first generation Lexus SC model was subjected to facelifting. Minor changes affected the exterior design. The automobile received doorsills lower side moldings and an updated grille. The main changes were made to technical equipment. Production of the upgraded first generation Lexus SC cars continued until July 7, 2000.

In April 2000 at the New York Auto Show the second generation Lexus SC model was introduced. Sales of the car started in the second quarter of the following year.

Lexus SC model of the second generation was produced in the roadster body with a hard convertible top. The car design was sporty, but at the same time elegant. The drag coefficient was only 0.29, which provided comfort while driving at high speeds, even with the top down.

The process of transforming a hard convertible top was automatic and took only 25 seconds. At the same time the car boot lid not only slightly opened, but shifted back for the smooth movement of the aluminum roof elements.

The four-seater interior was offered in several colors, including beige, gray and black. Natural wood, aluminum and chrome were used for interior trim. The seats were covered with leather and automatically adjusted in different directions. The second-generation cars were equipped with modern Mark Levinson sound system with automatic volume control depending on the sunroof position and driving speed. Headlight washers and i-AFS adaptive lighting were among basic options.

In 2005, the second generation Lexus SC model got a restyling. The car received new alloy wheels. Unlike its predecessor, the upgraded cars were officially imported to the UK. In July 2010, the Lexus SC model was discontinued.

For the Japanese market the first generation Lexus SC model was produced with the right wheel and was called the Toyota Soarer.
