The German Mercedes-Benz S-class cars began to be produced in 1966 though some previous models have the same designation since 1954. Cars of executive class are released nowadays.

Production of the first generation of the model was carried out from 1965 to 1972. Mercedes-Benz S-class W108/109 cars were manufactured in a sedan body.

The company produced the Mercedes-Benz S-class W116 model from 1972 to 1980. The car was equipped with four-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS). In 1974 the model was recognized as "The European car of year".

In 1979 at the auto show in Frankfurt the company presented the Mercedes-Benz S-class W126 stock model. The car was initially released only in a sedan body, but since 1981 the two-door coupe went on sale. In 1985 the car had new headlights with the integrated fog lights. The shape of the nose was slightly changed.

In the spring of 1991 the presentation of Mercedes-Benz S-class W140 took place in Geneva. The car had independent climate control, side airbags, and also the ESP system.

In 1994 the sedan got the updated back optics, direction indicators, a front and rear bumpers and new upholstery of passenger compartment. The road clearance of the car was reduced. The car became more efficient.

In 1996 the coupe underwent similar restyling. Release of Mercedes-Benz S-class W140 was stopped in 1999.

In 1996 in Paris the company showed the concept of Mercedes-Benz F200 Imagination created according to the sketches of Mercedes-Benz S-class W140. In 1998 at the auto show in Paris the presentation of the Mercedes-Benz S-class W220 stock model took place.

The new car was released only in a sedan body. In comparison with cars of the previous generation, the producer reduced overall dimensions and weight of the car considerably (from 1 890 kg to 1 800 kg). Drag coefficient decreased as well and made 0,27 now.

In 2002 the car had new disks, front and back optics, stylish direction indicators integrated in side mirrors and the updated radiator grille. Inner trimming was improved, and the new central console had the display with a diagonal of 6,5 inches.

In 2005 Mercedes-Benz S-class W221 was shown in Frankfurt. The same year the car received the "A golden steering wheel" award. The design of the car became more modern and effective, and the car increased in sizes significantly.

In 2009 the car had new side mirrors, headlights, and a stylish front and rear bumpers. There were Brake Assist and Attention Assist systems.

In 2013 the company presented Mercedes-Benz S-class W222 which is still produced. The car is available in bodies of a two-door coupe and a sedan. Assembling is carried out in Sindelfingen and Stuttgart, Germany. The Airguide system, stepless fixing of open doors, the ventilated glove box, eight airbags and other systems are included in the basic package of a new car.
