Info on VW CADDY model - the right selection of spare parts
Volkswagen Caddy
Volkswagen Caddy is the commercial car produced since 1980 till present. This model is closely associated with Volkswagen Golf Mk1, Volkswagen Polo Mk3 and Volkswagen Touran — many technical features of these models were used in Volkswagen Caddy.
Volkswagen Caddy І generation
For the first time the Volkswagen Caddy pickup was released in 1979. It was based on the Volkswagen Group A1 platform and was adapted for left-hand traffic.
Volkswagen Caddy was created during engineering experiments with the Volkswagen Golf model – the developers sought to reproduce this model in the pickup and the station wagon bodies.
The car was manufactured at the plants in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the USA.
Volkswagen Caddy ІІ generation
The Volkswagen Caddy model was updated in 1995. The design of the car was created by the Spanish subsidiary of SEAT concern. The second generation of the model initially was produced in Spain, the Czech Republic and Argentina in bodies of the pickup and a van.
Volkswagen Caddy had rounded forms of the body and completely renewed nose. Engineers replaced headlights with roundish rectangular ones, reduced the sizes of the radiator grille, considerably enlarged and displaced the bumper.
As standard features, driver's air bags and anti-lock brake system (ABS) were installed. The model also had the innovative Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) system which actually does not lock the differential, but is the analyzer and an adjuster of torque of the wheels.
Volkswagen Caddy ІІІ generation
The third generation of Volkswagen Caddy debuted in 2004 at the automobile show in Amsterdam. Production of the car was also arranged in Poland and Russia. The updated model had the improved aerodynamic characteristics of the body and the increased hood slope angle.
The car was available in bodies of a van and 4-and 5-door minivan. Interior design was created in style of Volkswagen passenger cars.
The third generation of Volkswagen Caddy had a number of the international automobile titles and awards:
- "Minivan of year" of 2007 and 2008 from the automobile magazine "Professional Van and Light Truck";
- "The best minivan" of 2007 from Van Fleet World;
- "The best minivan" of 2008 from Fleet News;
- "The best minivan" of 2008 from the Delivery Magazine;
- "Choice of the consumer of 2008" of the What Van? periodical.
In the European market modification of Volkswagen Caddy Maxi with extended wheel base and the enlarged luggage compartment became especially popular.
Volkswagen Caddy ІІІ generation restylings
In 2010 designers carried out restyling of the model. They made the design of the exterior of the body closer to the classical style of Volkswagen cars. New elongated front headlights, radiator grille and bumpers were installed.
Engineers carried out the second restyling in 2015. The car received the considerable changes of the exterior. The front of the car began to look more aggressively. Besides, engineers considerably improved the interior. Also the design of the tail of the body was changed: designers installed a new bumper, position lights and changed the shape of the tail gate. At the same time, technical specifications of Volkswagen Caddy cars remained at the former level.
