Volkswagen Jetta
Volkswagen Jetta is a popular car produced since 1979 till present. It was created to fill the niche of a small family car in a sedan body.
The name "Jetta" is short for "jet stream". This term stands for a high-altitude air stream in the Earth’s atmosphere. The name continues the tradition of naming the Volkswagen models after winds and atmospheric phenomena.
Volkswagen Jetta 1979–1998
Volkswagen Jetta was based on Volkswagen Golf model. Release of Volkswagen Jetta I started in 1979. Developers tried to create a car with the engine which would meet all Federal standards for engines of vehicles and was the most effective.
In 1984 there was a new generation of Volkswagen Jetta II. The car became larger and heavier. Exterior elements also were increased, but proportions remained the same. The shape of the nose was changed a little.
Besides, engineers considerably improved the model suspension, and added a large number of modifications. The on-board computer which analyzed the operation of engine, suspension, transmission, steering and brake mechanisms became a novelty.
The third generation of Volkswagen Jetta III was released in 1992 and had more streamlined design of the body.
Volkswagen Jetta IV
Production of Volkswagen Jetta IV started in 1999.
The forefront of a body was considerably changed. Developers established completely new front headlights, having arranged them deeper. Also bumpers, radiator grille, side marker lights and mirrors were replaced.
The car became accessible in bodies of a sedan and station wagon. The model had a number of such extra options as cruise control and the sensor of humidity, but basic packages were the most popular.
Volkswagen Jetta V
Release of the updated Volkswagen Jetta cars began in 2005. Developers expanded the number of plants. Now cars began to be also manufactured in Russia, Algeria and India.
The car of the fifth generation was equipped with mainly steel spare parts of laser welding. Their part was from 5% to 35% of all accessories.
Designers considerably improved system of the active and passive safety of the car. The anti-lock braking system (ABS), system of electronic stability control (ESP), the traction control system (ASR) and the complete set of airbags were established.
Volkswagen Jetta received the maximal five stars in EuroNCAP crash test.
Volkswagen Jetta VI
The sixth generation of the model received the code name Volkswagen Jetta NCS. Its release started in 2011 and continues till today. The car was constructed on the new PQ35 platform. Developers changed design and improved principal specifications.
Modifications, produced in China of Brazil and Malaysia, differed in functionality a little from the German assembling . For North America special modifications meeting environmental standards were released.
Volkswagen Jetta in the markets of the different countries
The Volkswagen Jetta model has a huge number of designations. Beside the original name, the car in different generations and on the different markets was called Volkswagen Atlantic, Volkswagen Fox, Volkswagen Vento, Volkswagen Bora, Volkswagen City Jetta, Volkswagen GLI, Volkswagen Clasico, Volkswagen Voyage, Volkswagen Sagitar. Also Volkswagen Jetta of the fourth generation was a twin of the Volkswagen Passat car, but had larger dimensions.
