Info on VW SHARAN model - the right selection of spare parts
Volkswagen Sharan
Volkswagen Sharan is a minivan with 7 seats, produced since 1995 till present.
The name "Sharan" translates from Farsi as "Gurkar (carrier) of kings".
Volkswagen Sharan I generation
Creation of the Volkswagen Sharan model was organized within cooperation of the Volkswagen and Ford companies. Producers planned to occupy the European niche of minivans completely. Development and testing of the car began in 1991, but it didn’t go to stock production until 1995.
Designers could not decide on the model exterior for a very long period of time. As a result, the idea of the American designer Greg M Greeson was taken as a basis.
The first generation of Volkswagen Sharan was available in Europe, South Africa and Latin America. To avoid the competition between already existing models of minivans, Volkswagens and Ford, within the partner agreement, clearly defined the markets in which the car would be on sale.
Volkswagen Sharan is based on the B-VX62 platform and is produced in the city of Palmela, Portugal.
The model received a number of awards and titles from popular international automobile magazines:
- "The best passenger car" from "What Car?" in 1996;
- "The best passenger car" from "Auto Express" in 1996;
- "The best passenger car" from "Top Gear Magazine" in 1998;
- "The best minivan" in the rating of "Auto Express New Car" in 1999.
Volkswagen Sharan I generation restylings
In 1999 restyling of Volkswagen Sharan cars took place. The updated car became available at the beginning of 2000. Designers changed the exterior of the front part of the body, emphasising front headlights and increasing the bumper. Also engineers increased the wheelbase of the car and added a number of new modifications.
After the restyling the model received the "The Best Minivan" title from "Auto Express New Car" in 2000 again.
The following restyling of the first generation of the model was announced in 2003 for the 2004 model year. Engineers made the front part of the body wedge-shaped, altered the shape of the radiator grille, replaced rear lights.
Besides, the car had a new set of standard equipment where the air conditioner and a set of airbags were added.
In 2006, a flexible fuel (dual-fuel) was unveiled as part of PrinceGas and Volkswagen collaboration. It could run both on pure petrol and on petrol-ethanol mixture. The ratio of the mixture could comprise from 5% to 95%. Liquefied natural gas could serve as fuel.
Volkswagen Sharan II generation
The new generation of the Volkswagen Sharan model was unveiled in 2010 at the automobile exhibition in Geneva. The updated car was based on the PQ46 platform.
Engineers overhauled the engine and suspension of the car cardinally. Besides, the model had sliding doors and the updated design of the nose. In the car there were three rows of seats. If necessary, the third row could be folded to increase the trunk volume.
Volkswagen Sharan II generation restyling
In 2015, designers carried out a small face lift of the model. Changes concerned the interior and the functional options of the car. The updated stability control system (ESP) and the new on-board computer were installed. Also the steering system was improved.
