What types of wing mirrors are available for Mercedes-Benz vehicles?
Some of them are more curved than others and there are three types of wing mirrors: flat, spherical convex, and aspherical. Flat components are rarely ever installed in modern vehicles as they do not ensure enough visibility. The convex ones reflect a larger area but the reflection is often highly distorted. Aspherical mirrors reflect a wider area with minimal distortion. However, they are more expensive.
Some components are coated with a tinted film which improves the visibility in the dark and prevents the driver from being dazzled by the high-beam headlights of the vehicles behind them. Premium range components include an auto-dimming feature. The devices include integrated light sensors and microprocessors. Between the glass and the outer layer of the mirror, there is also an electrochromic gel that changes colour when exposed to an electric current which dims the surface of the mirror.
In addition to this, most of the products available include a heating system, an electric adjustment system and an automatic folding mechanism.
Are the driver's and passenger's sides of Mercedes-Benz vehicles fitted with the same wing mirrors?
It depends on the model version and year of manufacture of the vehicle. First-generation vehicles were fitted with convex or flat mirrors on one or both sides. Most modern cars have aspherical mirrors. They can also be used in combination with spherical ones.
When do the wing mirrors in my Mercedes-Benz have to be replaced?
Install a new one if the drive system, heating, or automatic folding mechanism stops working properly, or if a bracket is damaged. Damaged housing and mirror components can sometimes be replaced separately.
Do I have to replace both wing mirrors?
No. You only need to install a new one if the old one breaks. Both components are replaced at the same time if the replacement one differs significantly in terms of design or colour from the previously installed mirrors.
