Parts for your BENTLEY car
Bentley Motors Ltd. is a British car maker, specializing in assembling of luxury cars. The company was established in 1919 by an engineer Walter Owen Bentley and is a part of a German concern Volkswagen AG since 1998. The company holds the Royal Warrant as the motor car manufacturer for the British Royal Family.
Brands’ history
The firm’s founder was fond of car racing. Thereby, the company was initially focused on manufacturing race cars. In 1919 at the London Motor Show the first model of the make was unveiled – 3-litre. The car was equipped with a 4-cylinder engine outputting about 70 hp, which let it reach a speed of 129 km/h.
In 1924, 1927–1930 and 2003, Bentley cars came first in “24 Hours of Le Mans” races. Participation in racing competitions brought not only fame to the brand but faithful admirers as well, who formed a famous group of motoring enthusiasts, the “Bentley Boys”. One of the racers, Woolf Barnato, became the main shareholder and chairman of the company’s board of directors.
In 1931, Rolls-Royce bought the company’s assets. They started to produce cars of this make in an English town of Derby on the basis of Rolls-Royce cars. Till 1965 the company mostly made copies of Rolls-Royce cars.
In 1965, at the Paris Motor Show, a revolutionary model was launched - the T-Series. They were the brand’s first cars with a unibody made of steel and aluminium, independent suspension with automatic height adjustment, disk brake system, power steering. The car was rather compact and able to reach a speed of up to 189 km/h.
In 1980, the company released a premium saloon Mulsanne and, in 1982, a performance model Mulsanne Turbo. These were the beginning of a modern model range of the make. After it was purchased by Volkswagen concern, the enterprise factories were modernized, and production facilities - increased. In 2005, 8 627 vehicles of the make were sold around the world, in 2007 – 10 014 with the record profit of €155 million.
In 2009, at the Geneva Motor Show, the manufacturer displayed a new version of the Continental model with the FlexFuel technology, which enables the vehicle to use not only petrol but biofuel as well. After a long break, in 2014, the company participated in Blancpain Endurance Series racing event with a Continental GT3 car.
