Isuzu TrooperThe release of Isuzu Trooper SUVs was carried out from 1981 to 2003. During that time two generations of the model and a restyling were presented. The manufacture of the vehicles took place in Fujisawa, Japan.
Isuzu Trooper I generationThe first generation of Isuzu Trooper cars was produced in 1981-1991. The model became the first SUV of Japanese carmaker Isuzu and competed with Mitsubishi Pajero for a long time. Design of the car was typical for the SUV: wide wheel arches, high ground clearance and large wheels stood out in the exterior. Angled body with expressive power bulges looked stylish and modern at the moment of the release.
The Isuzu Trooper SUV’s exterior was inspired by other Japanese cars of 1980s. The floor of the car was covered with a soft carpet, console between the seats was missing. Devices, switches and air conduits had rectangular shape. Front seats were equipped with head rests and provided good lateral support.
In 1987 the design of the cars was slightly renewed. The major changes touched the exterior of the front part: round headlights were replaced with rectangular once.
Isuzu Trooper cars were available in two, three and five-door bodies. Two-door Isuzu Trooper with soft convertible roof was available too. The first-generation vehicles were being released till 1991.
Isuzu Trooper II generationIn 1991 at the Tokyo Motor Show the second generation of Isuzu Trooper SUVs was officially presented. There were major differences between the cars of the first and second generations – both in terms of design and technical equipment. The car increased in size significantly. Technical characteristics were improved and basic package was extended. Three and five-door SUVs were available in the body line-up.
The design of second-generation cars was largely improved. Body lines became more flowing. The front part was decorated with rectangular headlights and expressive chrome-plated radiator grille. Overall, the car became to look more stylish and smart. The passenger compartment underwent the changes too: natural leather was being used in a trim of cars with expensive packages. Adjustable seats provided comfortable boarding. The cars of second generation were released till 1998.
Isuzu Trooper II generation restylingIn 1998 the design of second-generation cars was majorly renovated. The front part was changed: the car received stylish radiator grille, partly dyed in a body color as well as new headlights. Outside mirrors’ housings, wheel arches expanders, bumpers and moldings were dyed in a color of the main body. The interior was significantly changed. A central console was decorated with wood insets. A steering wheel and seats had a leather trim. Adjustable mirrors provided and excellent visibility.
The Isuzu Trooper cars were being released till 2002.
Isuzu Trooper on different marketsIsuzu Trooper cars were known by other names. In North America the model was sold under the name Honda Acura, in South America and Africa - Chevrolet Trooper, in Japan - Isuzu Bighorn, Honda Horizon and Subaru Bighorn, in Australia and New Zealand - Holden Jackaroo, Holden Monterey.
