Kia Cadenza sedans have been produced since 2010. Currently there is one generation of this model and one restyled model on the market. The manufacturer is based in Hwasung, South Korea, and Oskemen, Kazakhstan.

The world premiere of Kia Cadenza happened during the 2009 Dubai Auto Show. The main design features were seen before in the Kia KND-5 concept car presented at the Seoul Auto Show in Spring 2009. The mass production vehicle differed from the concept model by modified headlights and bumpers, the design of the radiator grill, the shape of the exterior mirrors, and the door handles.

The exterior of the Kia Cadenza sedan has been developed by the renowned German designer Peter Schreyer. The front of the car featured a massive radiator grill with horizontal bars, large headlights with LED inserts, and an air intake shaped like an inverted trapezoid. The wedge shaped embossing pattern on the hood streamlines onto the bumper, blending into the air intake contour lines. This made the front of the car resemble the letter X.

The exterior of Kia Cadenza used numerous chrome plated elements. Chrome plating was used on the radiator grill, the door handles, and the exhaust pipe recess. Chrome inserts decorated the exterior mirror covers, the rear bumper, and the sides of the car body. A sloped roof, a raised rear, and a considerable inclination of rear pillars indicated a sporty car. Thanks to a streamlined body, the car boasted excellent aerodynamic characteristics: the air drag coefficient was as low as 0.29.

The interior of Kia Cadenza cars was spacious and ergonomic. In the middle of the dashboard, there was the display of a GPS navigator system, which doubled as a screen for the rear view cameras. An innovative design of the central console was a distinctive feature of the car's interior. Comfortable seats with headrests and armrests were upholstered with leather in luxury configurations. The door panels had LED accent lights. As an optional feature, automatic seat adjustment and a panoramic roof were offered. Even the base configuration Kia Cadenza sedans were equipped with a full electric package, a two-zoned climate control, a CD player with iPod and USB sockets, and many other modern technology features. The first generation cars were manufactured until 2012.

In 2012, the Kia Cadenza was restyled. The front bumper, headlights, exterior mirrors, hood, and trunk lid were modified. The radiator grill was reshaped in the likeness of a honeycomb. The exterior of the restyled car featured a larger number of sharp lines. The new Kia Cadenza looked more sporty and aggressive.

The Kia Cadenza is marketed as the KIA K7 on the internal market of South Korea.
