Opel Manta

Production of the Opel Manta model was carried out from 1970 to 1988. Two generations and one restyling of this car was presented. Release was organized in Antwerp, Belgium.

Opel Manta A

The Opel Manta model debuted in 1970. The car was presented to mass media in Maritim hotel in the German city of Timmendorfer Strand. The first generation of the car was released till 1975. Cars had sports design of the body. Dual round lights were a special feature of an exterior. Originally the model was produced in a coupe body.

Opel Manta of the first generation was offered in two expanded packages: L and SR. L package had the chrome plated elements in the passenger compartment and exhaust pipe, an electronic clock, an ashtray, the cigarette lighter. The sports SR package differed from a basic set in the shape of disks and design of the hood painted in black colour. Also it had the tachometer, the amperemeter, the oil pressure sensor and the additional console with a clock.

Popularity in the European market was won by modification of Berlinetta. It differed in a black opaque bonnet, a sports steering wheel and a tachometer. Maximum speed of Berlinetta equaled 188 km/h.

In 1974 33 Opel Turbomanta cars were released (28 units with the right wheel and five cars with left). The car accelerated to 60 km in 7,6 seconds. Distinctive features of Opel Turbomanta were the roof covered with vinyl, black velour upholstery of the passenger compartment, and sports seats. Opel Turbomanta cars were released in cooperation with the British Company Broadspeed Engineering Ltd.

Opel Manta B

From 1975 to 1982 release of the second generation of Opel Manta continued. Changes affected a car exterior: the radiator grille and a shape of headlights were updated. In 1975 the car began to be released in a three-door hatchback body. In 1981 at the Geneva motor show rally modification of Opel Manta 400 was presented.

Opel Manta B restyling

In 1982 there was a restyling of the second generation of the Manta model as a result of which the quantity of slots of a radiator grille was increased, the propeller shaft tunnel became wider, the transmission was updated. Rubber mouldings, a back spoiler, the cassette tape recorder were included in a basic package. Production of Opel Manta B came to the end in 1988.
