Volvo V40 Estate cars were being manufactured from 1996 to 2004. A single generation and two restylings of the model were presented during that time. The cars’ assembly took place in Born, the Netherlands.

Volvo V40 Estate cars debuted at the Bologna Motor Show in 1995. The model was being produced in conjunction with the Volvo S40 sedan: actually, both vehicles were the same car in different bodies. Volvo V40 Estate’s design turned out stylish and elegant. The narrow headlights harmonized well with a small radiator grille. Elegant power bulge on the hood and a small bumper made the car’s exterior look sophisticated. Black moldings framed the car’s body. Door handles and the radiator grille were trimmed with chrome.

The interior was designed in keeping with the best traditions of the Volvo brand. High-quality leather was used for the interior trim. The door panels, the gearshift lever and the central tunnel were decorated with inlays of wood. The buttons, which control important functions, were readily available. Volvo V40 Estate cars had a high level of safety. The first generation of the cars was manufactured till 1999.

In 2000, the Volvo V40 station wagons underwent the first restyling. Cars’ design was slightly altered. The car received new bumpers and outside mirror housings were painted in a body color. Head and tail lights’ glasses became more transparent. The basic package of those cars included side and curtain airbags, ISOFIX fastenings for child seats. Front airbags had two deploy levels. A brand whiplash protection system (WHIPS) appeared. A dashboard and a central console were also updated.

The second restyling of Volvo V40 Estate cars took place in 2002. A design of the car became more smart and aggressive. Sharper lines appeared in the car’s exterior. A radiator grille was changed. Protruding bumper and an impressive power bulge made the car’s front look massive. New anatomical seats and a steering wheel appeared in the cabin. The release of those vehicles was carried out until 2004.
