Replacement of the cooling radiator on the VW PASSAT Variant (3B6) car is a quite complicated and laborious process. In order to ensure efficiency and longevity of the cooling system components you need to flush it. For this, a special agent should be added to cooling liquid into the expansion tank, and then the engine should be warmed up until it reaches the working temperature, then you need to wait until it cools down, and only after this you should drain antifreeze, having unscrewed the radiator drain plug and having put a container of sufficient volume under it in advance.
The thermostat and connecting pipes should be replaced together with a new radiator. Moreover, you need to visually inspect the support mounts: if they got cracked or hardened – they also should be replaced with new ones. This helps to provide maximal efficiency of the further operation of the VW PASSAT Variant (3B6) car cooling system, and prevent risk of its components premature wear.
In order to prevent antifreeze leakage, it is recommended to grease new hoses ends with a thin layer of silicon sealing compound.

Start the engine, and warm it up to the working temperature. Check activation of the fan, and then again check antifreeze level in the tank.
