Major repairs were usually only due after 180,000 to 220,000 kilometers, mainly affecting wearing parts such as the clutch, water pump or timing belt. The absolute top engine of this generation was the 2.0 Duratec ST with 150 hp, which combined sporty performance with acceptable reliability. In technical terms, Ford relied on tried and tested concepts: The smaller engines were given timing belt drives, while the larger units were fitted with maintenance-free timing chains. Compared to competitors such as the VW Polo or Opel Corsa, the Ford Fiesta Mk5 scored points with lower maintenance costs and easier servicing.

The Ford Fiesta Mk5 petrol engine range included a wide selection of engines for every need.
