DAIHATSU HIJET parts: find out more! Which ones to choose, when to change them, and how much they cost

Daihatsu Hijet are Japanese cars classified as kei-cars. Their production began in 1960 and continues to date. Since then, the company has presented ten generations and a restyling of the car in minivan, cab-over and pick-up truck and minivan bodies. These cars are being assembled in Japan.

The first generation of Daihatsu Hijet L35/L36 has been released in 1960. These cars had their engine placed in front, with a rear-wheel drive, which was characteristic of classical pick-up trucks.

The second generation of Daihatsu Hijet S35/S36 appeared on the market in 1964. The manufacturer has presented a new body type - a hood-less cab-over truck. Such cars had their engine placed underneath a two-seat cabin.

The third generation of Daihatsu Hijet S37, which was produced since 1968, was presented in two body types - a van and a cab-over truck. The front-hinged rear door has been replaced with a double-leaf one.

The fourth generation of Daihatsu Hijet S38/S40, manufactured since 1971, was defined by its renewed exterior: its designers have installed improved round headlights, a stylish radiator grille, elongated rectangular turn indicators.

The production of the fifth generation of Daihatsu Hijet S60 began in 1977. This car was presented in pick-up truck and sliding-door minivan bodies. As a result of the 1979 restyling, the exterior suffered minor changes, while the passenger compartment received new seats with adjustable headrests.

In 1981, the sixth generation of Daihatsu Hijet S65 entered production. The developers have installed a new drive on both axles, along with disc brakes on the front wheels. This has affected the car’s maneuverability and safety in a positive way.

The seventh generation of Daihatsu Hijet S80/S82 has debuted on the market in May 1987. An important change was the shift towards the use of powerful three-cylinder engines. The front end of the cars was decorated by rectangular headlights and a protruding air intake with integrated turn indicators.

In 1994, the eight generation of Daihatsu Hijet S100/S110/S120/S130 entered the market after being presented a year earlier at the Tokyo Motor Show. The Turbo SR configuration included an ABS system, and the Atrai Classic configuration had leather upholstery for the passenger compartment and a keyless access system.

The ninth generation of Daihatsu Hijet S200 cars debuted on the market in 1999. The differences between them and the previous generation lie in the rectangular headlights and the protruding plastic bumper. The passenger compartment has more useful space in spite of having three seats installed in the back. Access to the cargo compartment was ensured through a fifth, double-leaf, door.

The tenth generation of Daihatsu Hijet S320 was presented on the market in 2014 in two bodies - minivan and cab-over truck. The front part of the car was decorated with modern narrowed headlights, a new radiator grille and a wide air intake with integrated fog lights. The front panel now had a large speedometer dial and electronic indicators. The developers also installed a new audio system with comfortable controls on the central console.

Daihatsu Hijet was sold under different names on different markets: in Japan - as Daihatsu Hijet Truck, in Indonesia - Daihatsu Gran Max, in China - Huali Dafa, in Germany - Daihatsu Sparcar. The Daihatsu Hijet cars were also known as Daihatsu Atrai, Daihatsu Luxio, Daihatsu Zebra, Piaggio Porter, Subaru Dias Wagon, Toyota Sparky, Toyota Pixis, Toyota TownAce and Toyota LiteAce.
