Fiat PandaFiat Panda is the small city car released by the Italian producer since 1980. Fiat Panda cars are assembled at the plants of Italy and Poland. Fiat Panda of the second generation was recognized as the best European car in 2004.
Fiat Panda I generationIn the late seventies the Fiat design office received a task to develop the budgetary car for the European market to replace the outdated Fiat 126 model. The presentation of the Fiat Panda three-door hatchback designed on the front-wheel Fiat Typo Zero platform at the Geneva motor show of 1980 became a result of work of Italdesign studio. In 1982 there was Panda Super modification differing in a rich package. And in a year Fiat produced Panda 4x4 — the first-ever four-wheel drive car of such small class.
In 1990 the model was equipped with the electric engine, however production of the modification which received the name Panda Elletra lasted only three years owing to low efficiency.
Fiat Panda I generation restylingsThe first generation of Fiat Panda have been manufactured for 23 years and was only twice subjected to restyling during this period.
In 1986, besides some external changes, the model received the updated range of engines. Also the design of a back suspension was changed.
Within restyling of 1991 engines were upgraded again.
Fiat Panda II generationIn 2003 production of the second generation of Fiat Panda started. The prototype carried the name Fiat Gingo, however because of the phonetic similarity with a novelty from Renault (Twingo) it was decided to give a former name to the models, but with the Nuova prefix as changes were rather considerable. The new generation was based on the Fiat Mini platform and was presented by a five-door hatchback and a van. One year later the updated four-wheel drive Fiat Panda version was released.
Assembling of the second generation of Fiat Panda was carried out at the plant in the city of Tychy, Poland. These cars are widespread as office transport of police (Poland), the military organizations (Italy), post services (Switzerland).
Fiat Panda III generationThe last generation of front-wheel Fiat Panda was presented in 2011 in Frankfurt, the updated four-wheel drive Panda 4х4 appeared a year later. The exterior of the cars became more streamline that increased their aero dynamism. The head optics and a front grille were changed, the rear bumper became larger. The decorative railing was set on the car roof.
Fiat Panda in the markets of the different countriesIn Spain in 1980-1986 Fiat Panda was produced as SEAT Panda/Marbella.
