MG 1300 Mk.IIMG 1300 Mk.II compact sedans were produced from 1967 to 1971. The assembly of the cars took place in Spain, Italy, Belgium, Australia and South Africa.
MG 1300 Mk.II creation historyThe production of MG 1300 Mk.II began in 1967. The model was created on the MG 1100 basis. The cars were released in two and four-door sedans bodies.
The engine unit of MG 1300 Mk.II was placed in the front part of the body. The car had a front-wheel drive. Due to the hydraulic transmission the car had perfect controllability and a smooth ride.
The front part of the MG 1300 Mk.II body was decorated with a wide-framed chrome radiator grille and the license plate above it. Turn indicators were placed under the large “bug-eye” style headlights.
Rectangular side view mirrors in chrome cases were put on the doors. The rear part of the car was decorated with rounded “tailfins” which were typical for the MG cars of those years. The rear optics was installed right on the fins.
Thin chrome moldings were placed along the whole body. The boot lid continued the flowing sloped rear window lines. The car had metallic chrome bumpers.
The manufacturer used high-quality materials for the interior trim. The dashboard was made of natural wood. Speedometer, tachometer and other displays had large dials with a chrome frame. The car was equipped with a three-spoke sports steering wheel.
The car was widely used in street racing and amateur competitions. Due to the light weight and the high specific power of the engine, MG 1300 Mk.II had high dynamic rates.
Before 1970 MG 1300 Mk.II cars were leaders in sales in their class within Europe. Since the beginning of the XXI century the model became famous among collectors.
