What are the types of roof racks?

By material:

• Aluminum. Long-lasting and reliable, feature high corrosion resistance. Expensive.
• Steel. Durable and wear-resistant. Come galvanised for protection against corrosion. Heavy.

By installation method:

• On the roof rails. The crossbars can be mounted at any distance from each other. They do not contact the car body, so they do not deform or scratch its surface.
• In pre-drilled mounting holes, by means of a threaded connection. These accessories have a clever design and are reliable. However, they do not offer the possibility to choose their mounting location freely. Moreover, the product range of this roof rack type is limited.
• Into a T-track slot. Easy to install and use. They have no fixed attachment points.
• On the door frame. Reliable fastening is provided by the clamping mechanism. Using this type of accessories may cause scratches on the paintwork at the points where the structure contacts the car body.
• On the rain gutter. These are quite rare, as such a design solution is not suitable for modern cars.

By shape:

• Aerodynamic. They differ in the cross section types. These products are very light, as they are made of aluminum and are hollow. They are reinforced for higher rigidity. The devices produce a minimum level of noise due to low air resistance when driving. Sometimes they require adapters for installation.
• Rectangular. These are durable and capable of withstanding heavy loads. Suitable for most types of fasteners. However, they are heavy and impair the vehicle’s aerodynamics.

By availability of additional features:

• With a slide bar system for the most convenient access to the cargo.
• With a lock to protect the device against theft.
• Compatible with a T-track adapter for quick fastening of various accessories.

Tips on the use of roof racks

• Before installing the rack, wash and dry the car body thoroughly. If necessary, seal the threaded connections to prevent moisture from entering them.
• Tighten the fasteners alternately in several steps. Otherwise, the crossbars may be misaligned.
• Do not exceed the maximum permissible load capacity of the product and your vehicle. Failure to follow these recommendations may result in damage to the luggage carrier and cause your car to pull to one side.
• When driving on rough terrain, periodically stop and check that the crossbars and luggage are securely fastened.
• The optimum speed of the car with the mounted rooftop cargo carrier is not more than 130 km/h, and if you are transporting large-sized objects it should be below 90 km/h.
• Be sure to remove the crossbars and feet before washing your vehicle in an automatic car wash.
