Distinctive features
- Innovativeness. The manufacturer was one of the first to equip the cars with 12V electric system, a combination of starter and alternator produced by Bosch, sliding side windows, ATE Dunlop brake discs on all 4 wheels, automatic clutch.
- Good dynamics. NSU cars were characterized by small weight. The Prinz 4, released in 1961, weighed 570 kg only. It could reach the maximum speed of 116 km/h despite the fact that the engine power was just 30 hp. A more powerful Prinz 1000 TT weighed 680 kg and could accelerate to 145 km/h. Great accelerating characteristics of later models, for example, the Ro 80, were provided also by the aerodynamic design. The drag coefficient of this model was just 0.355 due to the optimal windscreen inclination angle and smooth lines of the bonnet.
- Stylish appearance. The exterior design of themake’s cars was very modern for its time. A streamlined car body and smoothed-out angles, round double headlights and a plastic radiator grille could be rarely seen at that time. High-quality fabric and leather were used in the interior upholstery. And the ceiling was carpeted or covered with a PVC film.
