Opel Arena
Commercial vehicle Opel Arena was produced by the Opel company from 1997 to 2001. It did not enjoy great popularity. In the autumn of 2001 this car was replaced with the Opel Vivaro model. Assembling of Opel Arena was carried out in Germany.
History of Opel Arena creation
In 1989 the Renault company presented the new car — Renault Trafic. The model was so successful that it was decided to release it with some changes and under new names for other markets of Europe and the world. So in 1998 the Opel Arena model — the German copy of a Renault Trafic minivan - appeared.
The car was produced in a van and a minibus bodies. Also it was possible to choose a roof — high or low.
Opel Arena did not have success despite equipment, quite rich for those times: the central lock, an immobilizer and anti-lock brake system (ABS) were included in a basic package of a car. In design of the car rectangular shapes prevailed. The dashboard differed in simplicity and good readability.
In 2000 the management of the company decided to stop the production of Opel Arena, having replaced this model with more stylish Opel Vivaro car.
Opel Arena in the markets of the different countries
The Opel Arena was known also under other names. In Great Britain the car was sold as Vauxhall Arena, in Brazil — as Chevrolet Space Van. In Europe release of Renault Trafic also continued. In 2007 production of this model started in India at the Tata Motors enterprise. The car had the Tata Winger Van name.
