Compact Suzuki LJ 80 SUVs were manufactured from 1978 until 1982. Due to the high popularity of the model, the company accessed markets in Europe, North America, and in other countries.

The production of Suzuki LJ 80 started in 1978. Initially, the car had been developed for the army, but at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1979, an updated utilitarian car was shown. Hard and soft top SUVs were made.

The front and rear wheels of the car were equipped with drum type brakes. Suzuki LJ 80 cars had constant rear drive, and part-time four-wheel drive. The wheelbase was 1,930 mm.

Front lights of Suzuki LJ 80 consisted of two large round headlights, and small round turn indicators and marker lights. The car was fitted with a rectangular radiator grill with vertical connectors.

The lid of the hood of the car had a curly punching with a small air intake. Suzuki LJ 80's metal bumpers were painted in black, or the car body color. Horizontal punchings on the doors provided additional rigidity.

Soft-top cars had a frame made of steel pipes. Some cars were made without metal doors. The passenger compartment contained three passenger seats. Suzuki LJ 80's fuel tank capacity was 40 liters.

In 1982, the production of Suzuki LJ 80 was discontinued due to low corrosion resistance of the body. All in all, about 15 thousand cars left the assembly line. The new SUV Suzuki SJ was the successor of the model.

In Europe and North America, the car was known as Suzuki LJ 80. In other countries, the car was sold as first generation Suzuki Jimny and Suzuki SJ 20. In Germany, the car was known as Suzuki Eljot, and in Australia - as Suzuki Stockman.
