Seat Altea: heater not working, clutch problems, and other common faults
Do you want to know what to look out for when caring for and buying a used SEAT Altea? Our brief guide investigates the most common problems SEAT owners experience and how to solve them.
Common SEAT Altea problems
Seat Altea: turbo problems
A common cause of turbo failure is a bad turbocharger bearing. Usually it means that the bearing and housing or whole unit have to be replaced. Symptoms may include a loud whistling noise in the engine bay, boost pressure problems and a loss of engine power, excessive black smoke, and increased oil consumption.
In this case, make sure to get your car to a mechanic as quickly as possible to protect the car from further damage. You can save on repair costs by ordering an affordable turbo for SEAT Altea online.
Seat Altea: clutch problems
Premature clutch failure is one of the more frequently reported problems for the first generation of the model with a manual transmission. Common causes include low or contaminated fluid, overheating, a worn flywheel or pressure plate, mechanical damage or software faults.
A noisy suspension
If you are experiencing vibrations and loud noises coming from the front suspension, particularly when driving over bumps and uneven terrain, it could be due to bad wishbone bushes. Make sure to diagnose the fault and replace the parts in good time to prevent further damage. Seat Altea: central locking problems
A number of car owners post online that their Altea’s central locking system is not working. It may either not be locking properly or not opening. If the problem lies in the key remote, it is usually due to a dead battery. You may be able to replace the battery or get a new key fob.
ABS malfunctions
Drivers often report that the ABS warning light flashes up on the dashboard, indicating a fault. The system can malfunction for a variety of reasons, including a defective ABS pump, brake malfunctions, faulty sensors or control module, a blown fuse, and other SEAT Altea electrical problems.
In 2017, the manufacturer had to issue a recall due to interruptions in the connections of the ABS or ESC system. This was remedied by installing a new software on the onboard computer.
Seat Altea: rear light problems
For example, some users complain that the brake or tail lights are no longer working. First, you obviously need to check whether the SEAT Altea rear light bulbs are in good condition. Once the bulbs have been ruled out, you should check the specific fuse for the rear or brake lighting system. Another possible culprit is a broken light switch.
Seat Altea: heater problems
If your heater is not working properly or blowing any warm air at all it could be due to a faulty blower motor. If this component fails, there will be little to no air blowing into the passenger compartment.
If there is air but it isn’t hot enough, the issue could actually be related to the coolant levels or engine thermostat. The heater operates using coolant fluid that is heated up by the engine and pushed through its core. If there isn’t enough liquid or the engine is running cool, this process won’t work.
