Chevrolet MalibuThe Chevrolet Malibu cars, that got their name after a small town in California, have been released since 1978. In 1983, the production was temporarily stopped. Revived in 1997, the Chevrolet Malibu initially was distributed only in the United States, and only in 2013 returned to the world market. In 2016 the sixth generation model came out. From the fourth generation it is represented only by a sedan, previously was released as a coupe and a wagon.
Chevrolet Malibu 1978-1983The first generation Chevrolet Malibu was presented by a coupe, a sedan and a station wagon. To reduce the cost of production, the rear windows in the sedan did not open. This move led to an increase in sales of air conditioners that worked in favor of GM and Chevrolet dealers, but could not please consumers. In 1980 the Chevrolet Malibu M80 was released, a so-called muscle car, which spread only in North and South Carolina and was intended for the fans of NASCAR racing.
After 1981 restyling the Chevrolet Malibu cars went onto the platform G. The model was produced until 1983, and then gave way to the Chevrolet Celebrity.
Chevrolet Malibu 1997-2013After 14 years the production of the Chevrolet Malibu was resumed, initially only in the sedan. The second-generation cars (1997-2003) were designed on a new N platform with an increased wheelbase. In 1997, the revived Chevrolet Malibu was voted Car of the Year by the Motor Trend magazine. After the restyling, held in 2000, the Malibu Chevrolet got a new grille, as well as a brand Chevrolet bowtie emblem (formerly the Malibu logo was located in the center of the grille).
The third generation model (2004-2007), in addition to the sedan, was presented by the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx station wagon. Initially, the cars had a big grille with a horizontal chrome edge that made them look like Chevrolet SUVs. After facelifting in 2006 the grille decreased in size and GM branded emblems appeared near the front doors.
The fourth generation design (2008-2012) was developed by Bryan Nesbitt, for whom the task of creating the car capable of competing with popular Japanese car brands was delivered. In the same year at the North American Auto Show in Detroit the updated Chevrolet Malibu was voted Car of the Year.
Chevrolet Malibu 2013-2015The fifth generation (2013-2015) was created on the GM Epsilon II platform. The presentation took place back in 2011 at the auto show in Shanghai. Despite the impressive dimensions (4850 mm long, 1850 mm wide), the Chevrolet Malibu cars have a quite sporty look. The basic package includes the side and dual front airbags for the driver and front passenger, as well as the knee level airbags.
After facelifting in 2014 the front of the Chevrolet Malibu has become similar to the updated Chevrolet Impala, minor changes have been made to the center console. After the sixth generation model appearance, in North America the fifth generation release continuesunder the name Malibu Limited.
Chevrolet Malibu VI GenerationApril 1, 2015 in New York the sixth generation Chevrolet Malibu was presented. The vehicles have become larger and lighter, have got a new interior and the downward roof like in a coupe. Shortly before the presentation the manufacturer announced that the Chevrolet Malibu model has overcome the milestone of 10 million copies sold worldwide.
